Trained by BBC News, Steve McKenna is a Sony Award winning journalist and presenter with well over a decade’s experience under his belt. He can currently be heard hosting one of the biggest DriveTime shows in the UK (Rajar figures) on Real Radio.
His television work has encompassed every major terrestrial and digital channel: The Movie Chart Show (CH 5), GMTV, RISE, FOT (BBC1), Science at Christmas (BBC 2)
Entertainment UK (Sky 1) and many, many more. During four years at the BBC he was acting Editor of Entertainment News, appearing daily on Radio 1 and 2 whilst also reporting for BBC1 News, BBC3 and Radio 5. In print he’s written for various publications including NME, The Guardian and completed a two year stint as columnist for the Daily Record.
Steve’s wit has led to successful comedy writing for Radio 2 and 4 whilst his expertise in the entertainment industry has taken him around the world: The Oscars, Cuba’s first rock gig, numerous festivals throughout Europe, various events in NY and even half way up a mountain in Switzerland. He has a doctorate in metaphysics, his father’s a retired private detective and his mother’s a faith healer ……his interests are extensive, his knowledge is frightening and his experience is enormous.
Media wasn’t Steve’s first career choice and for a number of years he worked very fruitfully in the music industry. In addition to being part of the marketing team behind the Spice Girls and a number of major festivals (including T In The Park and Reading) he also managed and assisted a number of top Scottish bands in the early stages of their careers. Shirley Manson cites Steve as the person who got her together with Butch Vig to form Garbage.
He has had experience as a stand-up comedian, children's TV presenter, professional singer and host to corporate events. Steve’s recent TV projects include ITV2’s Office Monkey and the Discovery Channels “Sci-fi Saved My Life”.
He’s that very rare commodity - a safe pair of hands with the ability to tailor his delivery to your specifications – straight, quirky, fun or intellectual he excels at them all but remains easy going and great fun to work with.
