From there he was promoted to become a columnist and for three years wrote a full-page column for the Sunday paper. He also became literary editor – interviewing, among others, Salman Rushdie, Martin Amis, Tom Wolfe and Joseph Heller. In 2000, he was made the Sunday newspaper’s chief interviewer and was appointed Associate Editor across all Express titles.

He was a regular guest on Liquid News (some 50 appearances). Earlier this year he appeared on The Wright Stuff (Five) as a panellist. His other work includes slots on the Big Breakfast, Channel 4 News, Powerhouse (C4), Sky and many, many others – usually in the capacity of arts or politics commentator.

His main occupation at present is as an author. After he left the Express in 2001, he became a full time writer following the sale of his first novel The Caligrapher to 4th Estate in the United Kingdom. Remarkably, for a first novel, the book has been sold in Italy,France, Germany and Spain. Edward has also signed a deal with the prestigious US publishers Houghton Mifflin.
